PUT IN WORK (9/28/2026)
We’re back with another issue! Last week was a strong one for the market and tech especially. The Nasdaq (QQQ) ended the week up a whopping 3.2%, while the S&P 500 (SPY) finished up a decent 1.3%. A lot of the week’s movement came from optimism surrounding AI and chip stocks.
Monday started the week off on a positive note as tech stocks pushed higher, which helped the Nasdaq reach a record high. AMD (AMD) was one of the biggest movers of the day, and as a result, its market cap reached above $1 trillion for the first time. Intel (INTC), Arm (ARM), Micron (MU), and Meta (META) also moved higher, which helped carry the market at large.
Tuesday kept the momentum going despite modest gains, as the Nasdaq rose again and set another closing record, while the S&P 500 ended mostly flat, though slightly in the negative. Memory stocks remained strong, with Sandisk (SNDK) and Micron among top performers—while some of the Magnificent Seven cooled after Monday’s sharp rally.
Wednesday was when investors decided to take a breather. Stocks fell as treasury yields jumped to their highest level since 2007, stirring concerns that rates could stay elevated for longer than investors would like—which isn’t the most surprising news; the Nasdaq dropped 1.1% and the S&P 500 fell 0.8% as a result. Memory and semiconductor stocks pulled back after their strong start to the week, though Meta still managed to finish higher ahead of its conference.
Thursday proved to be an uneventful mixed bag as the S&P 500 ended slightly lower, while the Nasdaq finished just barely higher. Treasury yields continued to climb, and oil prices remained high. Meta was once again a bright spot after announcing new AI products, while memory stocks and Oracle (ORCL) moved lower.
Friday was a positive end to the week! Stocks rose as both oil prices pulled back, giving investors some relief after experiencing dwindling momentum in the days prior. Microsoft (MSFT) helped lead tech higher, and Costco (COST) rose after reporting better-than-expected results.
