WAITING ON THE LORD

Well... that’s where I’ve been RTG family. I’ve been waiting on the Lord. This article included. So I called the kiddo and let him know that “I got nothing.” And jokingly, I said, “I guess I’ll just keep waiting on the Lord.” I’ll continue to trust and wait patiently on God’s plan for this month’s post along with everything else He has in mind. Perhaps it just seems more serious when a deadline and commitment is involved. But then, I take a step back and take comfort in knowing it will be just fine if I don’t get a fresh post published for this first Wednesday of August.

And just like that, Isaiah 40:31 flashed before my eyes. “But those who wait on The Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” It’s not like I’ve memorized a ton of verses or have a mental rolodex of everything IN the Bible. But, I do have The Bible App on my phone and that verse along with Psalms 27:14 popped up when I simply typed in, “Waiting on The Lord.” In psalms 27:14, David says, “Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And HE shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the LORD” A simple, amazing and clear message only discovered along this path to post because of my complete trust and Faith in Him and His divine intervention.

While these verses clearly command us to wait patiently, they also direct us to be courageous as He strengthens our hearts and promises to renew our strength so we will not grow weary or faint along this marathon of a life HE has blessed us with. As my good friend Tim once pointed out to me, waiting on the Lord also means to serve and use this strength and endurance He gives us, to not just passively wait around, but to actively and courageously serve. Much like a waiter in the hospitality business waits on us, we are to do business with and for the Lord by showing hospitality to all strangers and guests we meet along our ways.

Something I did not know until recently is the word Hospital comes from the Latin word hospes, signifying a stranger or foreigner and in turn a guest. Hospitality comes from a Greek word xenia meaning love and respect between hosts and guests. So let’s keep “waiting on the Lord” with patience and courage as He strengthens our hearts, to serve with a level of hospitality that brings joy and comfort to all whom we encounter along the way.
